Gravity Survey: Detecting Subsurface Density Variations
Gravity surveys are a powerful tool in mineral exploration, as they allow us to detect subsurface density variations. By measuring the gravitational pull at different points on the earth’s surface, we can create amap of the underlying rock formations and identify areas where mineral deposits may be located.
This technique works because different minerals have different densities, which affects the strength of the gravitational pull they exert. For example, a deposit of gold will have a higher density than the surrounding rock, causing a slight increase in gravity that can be detected by sensitive instruments. By analyzing these variations, we can create a detailed picture of what lies beneath the surface.
